The on-site interview

Three interview types

It is important to understand and prepare yourself for the three types of interviews that could take place at The National Job Fair & Training Expo. Each type has its own, unique approach.

The screening interview
The mini-interview
The full interview

The screening interview

This interview usually lasts two to three minutes. The recruiter's main interest is gathering resumes and making initial impressions; from there, the recruiter must decide whether to go to the next step. This is the time to use your "one-minute sales pitch" and to point out pertinent areas in your resume, the ones that reflect the needs of the company.

The screening interview is conducted at the exhibitor's booth.

The mini-interview

This interview usually lasts five to 10 minutes. Be prepared to give more details on your background. You want to quickly establish that you are the right person for the employer's needs. The recruiter will usually want more details about the information in your resume. It is essential that you be prepared to comment on every item listed.

The mini-interview is usually conducted at the exhibitor's booth or in the Interview Area.

The full interview

The full interview usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes. It could last longer, but it will depend on the employer's schedule during the event. This interview is often the secondary one, which means the employer is seriously considering and evaluating your candidature. The employer will surely ask for more qualitative answers, so be ready to provide complete answers and to elaborate on your background.

The full interview is usually conducted in the Interview Area or at employer's office after the event.
